  1. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I was aware that the capacitor was part of the harness, I just hoped that it could be obtained separately. Here is the official response from Beru "Dear Sir, We regret to inform you that EK056 is depleted without supersession." I will either purchase one from ebay or buy a generic one. Thanks, Shep
  2. No the car is still here. It will be here for a while. I don't have an answer yet. I don't believe that a generic capacitor is the right way to go, only as a last resort. I emailed Beru and am hoping to get some type of answer. I will post when I know more.
  3. Thanks for the reply Angelo, I don't believe this is a mechanical issue. We recently replaced the head gasket on the car and checked all the mechanical. OK. There is a failure in the idle or mixture circuit. I really need some quick tests for these items or detailed troubleshooting info. I haven't worked on these old ones for a long time and need a refresher. Thanks, Shep
  4. VIN: WDBDA28D5HF387492 Production Month / Vehicle Year: August / 1987 Production Month / Vehicle Year: August / 1987 Make: Mercedes Benz Model: 190E Engine: 102.985 2.3 4 cylinder Transmission: Automatic 4-Speed 722 Mileage: 228000 Affected System: Engine / Powertrain Fuel / Injection System Description of Issue: Idle Quality Scan Tool: OtherHi Group, I need some help with this one, This 190E 2.3L idles too high. Originally, it ran rough and stumbled under acceleration. I smoke tested the intake and found a bad lower CIS sensor plate boot. Later I tested the sensor plate potentiometer and it had a glitch in it causing the car to stumble under acceleration, so it was replaced. Now the car drives OK, but the idle speed is too high. There are no more vacuum leaks. I checked the idle stabilizer power supply (2 wire stabilizer) and it is OK. I need a basic refresher course how to check the idle stabilizer circuit (control side) and the EHA valve circuit (setting mixture control). Should I be able to set Lambda ratio thru the #3 diagnostic pin on this system? Or do I need to use the inline mA reading to the EHA valve? Thanks for any help or advice, Shep

Does anyone know where to buy this as a separate part? It is not shown in the ETK. The number on it is Beru 0310025015 110v 4.7uF. Thanks for any help or info, Shep
  6. Thanks to everyone for the help and info. Even though I am not doing the actual repair I am marking it as "fixed" because I believe that the diagnosis is correct and that a new timing chain and relative components would fix the problem. Shep
  7. Thanks Mike for the leaking injector test. I ran it and it seems good. My last question is, if the shop buys the car (takes possession of it) is it worth it to do the timing chain job? I mean, once the chain and fuel pressure is corrected will the rest of this engine last a bit longer or are they done @ 170k?
  8. On a side note I have two questions about ODIS. Is there a way to exit GFF or change vehicles without clearing all the codes? It seems like there should be a way to exit GFF and then return back to processing the codes later. If it clears all the codes then you have to start all over and even wait for the codes to reoccur. Second, when running a GFF test plan if I hit either |< or < to go back a step or try to repeat something the test plan does not enable the "continue" button to be selected. I can only move forward and back in steps but the current values are not actively read. Any ideas for either of these situations?
  9. Thanks David for the MVB 093 suggestion. I wasn't finding anything with adaption value in the advanced measuring blocks. My values are -9 and -11. At this point would you feel comfortable blaming the low high pressure to a stretched timing chain. I am glad I wasn't the one to put all the other parts on the car.
  10. Thanks for the info. I would not focus on the misfires at this point since the only code that immediately comes back after two key cycles is the 008851 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276) P2293 - 002 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent - MIL ON I think this is what needs to be fixed first.
  11. Thanks for the reply Peter, So If I understand correctly the low pressure side is not a concern at this point? Also, can you shed any light on how the timing chain could be the problem and if so are there values I can look at to determine it? I did run thru the N276 test plan for the high side system and it stated "high pressure system OK", but the values it displayed seemed strange to be ok. See pic. I will compare value block 140 when I get a chance again.
  12. VIN: WVWFU73C06P151160 Production Month / Vehicle Year: January / 2006 Production Month / Vehicle Year: January / 2006 Make: Volkswagen Model: PASSAT 4MOTION (3C2) Engine: 3.6L (BLV) Transmission: Automatic 5-Speed Mileage: 170000 Affected System: Engine / Powertrain Fuel / Injection System Description of Issue: Hesitation / Cuts Out / Poor Acceleration Scan Tool: VCDS / Vag-ComHi Group, I need some help on this one. This car came from another shop where they have already replaced the high pressure fuel pump, low pressure in tank pump, fuel pump control module, and low pressure sensor. It had a lot of erroneous codes but if you clear the codes and start the car and rev it up to 3000 then shut it off and repeat one more time the check engine light comes on and code 008851 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276) P2293 - 002 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent - MIL ON is set. I ran activation for the N276 and you can hear it clicking. I watched the actual values for both high pressure and low pressure and when it is revved up it seems like the high pressure is too low (drops from 19 bar to around 7 bar). The low pressure value seems to stay pretty constant but I have seen it as low as 3.8 bar at idle, but most of the time up around 6.7 bar. I was told that when the HPFP was replaced that the camshaft was inspected and looked ok and the follower was replaced. Attached is a graph of the high, low, and rpms. I am not sure where to go from here so any help would be appreciated. Should I suspect the fuel filter with regulation valve? Or other types of engine problem? I read one post on the forum that they said they sent the car to the dealer for a similar issue and said it was a stretched chain, but there was no explanation of how this was determined. 13. This one was a mess from start to finish. Since nothing made any sense I started over and rechecked the basics. I found that the #2 and #3 spark plug wires were reversed now (numerous people were working on this car at various times). I corrected the wiring and the car was fixed. I know that the wires were in the correct order when first working with the problem and I do believe that the control unit was the problem, however when some of the new parts were reversed is when this happened. Unfortunately, it was done in conjunction with installing the rebuilt control unit. So it seemed as if we had the same problem but we really did not. I am just glad the car is fixed. Thanks for all the input, Shep
  14. Based on all the research I have done, I believe Nenad's suggestion that it is the heater valve is right on. So far the customer is not willing to spend the money on the repair. Thanks, Shep
  15. Thanks Mike for your in depth reply that would definitely help me find the problem. Unfortunately, I found out this morning that the customer is not even in for a couple of hours of diagnosis, much less the cost of a replacement module. I fear this one is not going to get fixed at this point although he claims when he has more money we will revisit the problem. Until then I guess he will be at the mercy of, maybe the car will run or maybe it won't.
