  1. Thanks, Brian. I was picturing something a bit more chaotic. Really, the point I'm trying to get at, is why the ignition circuits are not "firing-off" / or only #3 (intermittently), anyway. Could be something simple as a loose common-ground type of issue.
  2. I'm honestly not sure what that means . You need to check the ground circuits with a digital multi meter, using ohms to verify the resistance path to ground.
  3. I'm going to suggest we back-track a bit and get some more fundamental information before we get carried away on cam timing this-and-that. Have you verified the DME ground-circuit integrity? I'm to understand that this vehicle came in running, and also ran when the repairs were completed. YES? but now will crank and not start. Also, has someone explained the fault description and criteria of code "303E" ?
  4. OK. This one finally came back in last week. It was at the body shop for a while getting some {unrelated} paint work redone.....Back to the matter-at-hand: VEHICLE IS FIXED. Popped the new power-output stage control unit in the left head light and ran a fault code scan on AW55 "Headlight Range" Thursday,18,May,2017,11:39:53:36887 VCDS Version: Release 17.1.3 (x64) Running on Windows 10 x64 www.Ross-Tech.com Address 55: Headlight Range Labels: 4F0-910-357.lbl Control Module Part Number: 4F0 910 357 F HW: 4F0 907 357 F Component and/or Version: AFS 1 H01 0020 Software Coding: 0000255 Work Shop Code: WSC 02325 785 00200 Additional Info: 4F0941329D AFS-Modul links H01 0010 4F0941329D AFS-Modul rechtsH02 0020 VCID: 29593B15806935099E-807C 4 Faults Found: 02629 - Sensor for Swivel Module Position; Left 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 00111000 Fault Priority: 2 Fault Frequency: 74 Reset counter: 40 Mileage: 178728 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2017.04.28 Time: 10:04:58 02656 - Power Output Stage for Left Headlight (J667); Not Coded 000 - - - MIL ON Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 00111000 Fault Priority: 2 Fault Frequency: 74 Reset counter: 40 Mileage: 178728 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2017.04.28 Time: 10:04:58 01539 - Headlights Not Adjusted 005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation - MIL ON Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 11100101 Fault Priority: 2 Fault Frequency: 1 Reset counter: 216 Mileage: 178904 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2017.05.18 Time: 11:40:14 01042 - Control Module; Not Coded 000 - - - MIL ON Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 11100101 Fault Priority: 2 Fault Frequency: 1 Reset counter: 216 Mileage: 178904 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2017.05.18 Time: 11:40:14 Performed "security access" function and then "coding" for A6 - AFS1 "w/ steel suspension" .....module coded correctly, BUT then the basic setting for aiming adjustment would not run......error message. REPLACED THE LEFT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY with a NEWER HELLA/OEM, which I had on stand-by just based on a hunch.....and then ran the Basic Setting for headlight aiming/adjustment.. Adaptive headlight warning now OFF and the system is functioning "normally" again. I am suspecting that there might still be a compatibility issue between the older output stage control unit and the "newer" version of head lamp assembly, but can not officially confirm any of that speculation.....Either way; it's FIXED!!! and, we got PAID, and the customer is HAPPY. Drink a beer. go home. nuff said.
  5. I'm betting on water in the AHL unit. at least as part of the problem, ...maybe. Have seen this happen on a regular basis.
  6. Check the mechatronic sealing-sleeve at this transmission wiring harness. Strangest thing, but I have seen {ATF leaking at} these pull down bus systems and do the strangest intermittent stuff. Sometimes a long-shot, but east enough to check and when you catch it....badda-bing!
  7. This VIN is correct , but it would not decode in AllData. BMW-EPC did recognize it as Z8 E52,...but yet to confirm the production date. What Jivi said. Sounds like ELV failure. Very common in early build E90/E92. Not sure that this Z8 would fall into that category tho.
  8. Time to go "harness-hunting". Some of these models (E90/E92/etc...) were known to develop open/short circuits in the CAN-bus due to chaffing of the wiring-harness across sections of the body & frame. Peter can probably dig up the Service-Bulletins on this. ?
  9. Also, Not sure if a title change for this POST should happen, but the AUDI acronym for this sub-system is AFS, is it not? (Adaptive Front-Lighting System) *AHL is a BMW acronym, I believe. (Adaptive Headlamp Leveling) Will let the ADMIN make a judgement call on this.
  10. Ordered a replacement unit for the left headlight. Should be here mid next week. Current AUDI part # appears to be 4F0 941 329 D. "Power Module for Corning Light" . > the one currently installed has a "B" suffix. So, an update sounds promising attached more pics: I removed the "power unit" from the left headlight assembly for further inspection. And popped it open, since it does not appear to be cooperating anyway. Gee, I don't know. What could go wrong in here? Looks pretty bullet proof, no?
  11. Can I get an ADMIN to UNLOCK this POST for further discussion? The fault code (02629) will NOT clear. AND Selective OUTPUT TESTS are now failing with a message, attached screen shot.
  12. Vehicle is back today. Active warning message "adaptive light defective" Stored fault code in AW55-headlight range: Friday,28,April,2017,09:44:34:36887 VCDS Version: Release 17.1.3 (x64) Running on Windows 10 x64 www.Ross-Tech.com Address 55: Headlight Range Labels: 4F0-910-357.lbl Control Module Part Number: 4F0 910 357 F HW: 4F0 907 357 F Component and/or Version: AFS 1 H01 0020 Software Coding: 0000016 Work Shop Code: WSC 02325 785 00200 Additional Info: 4F0941329B AFS-Modul links H02 0020 4F0941329B AFS-Modul rechtsH02 0020 VCID: 29593B15806935099E-807C 1 Fault Found: 02629 - Sensor for Swivel Module Position; Left 008 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 11101000 Fault Priority: 2 Fault Frequency: 32 Reset counter: 204 Mileage: 178616 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2017.04.25 Time: 18:35:37 We have the "newer" headlight assemblies on standby. Though I am now suspecting a calibration discrepancy between the new headlight assembly and the Adaptive-Range module/s
  13. JBE is likely. Just make sure the connections are clean......NO corrosion or water allowed.
  14. Roger that, Mike. Vehicle is back with the owner for now. We are claiming SNAFU until the system gives us some faults to work with.
  15. New shifter assembly installed. Our shop owner drove this vehicle home last night. reported back: Adaptive head lights working. speed dependent, as they should be Nothing abnormal. Going to have to get together with the owner again and find out more. stay tuned
